This is excellent advice. In order to solidify habits I start every day by writing the first letter of the habit across the top of the page of my agenda. When I engage in that habit I reward myself by crossing that letter off. What I found was that I needed to be more flexible in what I considered to be sufficient for a cross off. I adopted a similar strategy to what you’re proposing and I found a tremendous improvement in my consistency.
